On Thursday,November 8, 2018, in collaboration with The School of AI and CodeJunkie, NUST Entrepreneurs Club, conveyed to your tables the very first meetup of The School of AI – Islamabad Chapter.

What exactly is The School of AI:

School of AI is a non-profit organization and a learning community dedicated to teaching students how to make a positive impact in the world using AI technology for free.

What happened in the event?

As it stepped grounds into NUST, it presented an educational lecture that communicated the spirit and mission of School of AI to participants. The event was further followed by keynote speeches from AI researchers, professors, entrepreneurs, hobbyists, and enthusiasts. The discussion involved the academic scope of AI, industry adoption, career opportunities, and startups ideas.

A little something about the speakers:

Sir Faisal Poster

Event’s first speaker was none other than the esteemed researcher, Dr Faisal Shafait!

Dr. Faisal Shafait is currently working as an Associate Professor at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (SEECS), National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, Pakistan. Besides, he is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the School of Computer Science and Software Engineering, University of Western Australia, Perth, Australia. Previously, he has worked as a Senior Researcher at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) as well as an Adjunct Lecturer at Kaiserslautern University of Technology (TUKL), Germany.

Dr. Faisal Shafait has received his PhD with the highest distinction in computer engineering from TUKL in 2008. His research interests include machine learning and pattern recognition with a special emphasis on applications in document image analysis. He has co-authored over 100 publications in international peer-reviewed conferences and journals in this area. His Google Scholar Profile shows over 2,000 citations of his papers.

Dr. Faisal is working as a CEO at DCubeCTO at VisionX, and Chief Scientist at PackageX. He shared his ideas about the scope of AI in research, academia, industry, and entrepreneurship.

Event’s second speaker was Dr. Ali Tahir!

Dr. Ali Tahir has completed his PhD in Automatic Speech Recognition from RWTH Aachen University. During his 11 year stay in Germany he has worked on different EU-funded projects related to speech recognition, primarily aiming to bridge the language divide in a multilingual Europe. During his time at NUST he has been collaborating with local industry to create Urdu voice based solutions for conversational agents and vehicle navigation. He has also launched an Urdu website UrduAsr which is being used by thousands of people for Urdu voice based typing.

Dr. Ali Tahir and his team has also developed1st Urdu Voice Navigation System in collaboration with TPL Trakker Pvt. Ltd. Currently, he is working as a Technology Consultant at TPL Trakker Pvt. Ltd. and VisionX Technologies.

Event’s third speaker who is also the Dean of the School of AI, Syed M. Tayyab!

Syed M. Tayyab is a young entrepreneur from SEECS, the Co-Founder & CEO of CodeJunkie. He is working as the Dean of the School of AI – Islamabad Chapter. Previously, he has collaborated with IBM in the domain of Quantum Computing and Teradata in the domain of Data Analytics.

Tayyab is a Certified Trainer from School of Leadership. He has given talks at various universities including NUST, FAST, COMSATS, NUML, and RIPHAH. He has also worked as a Technical Trainer with CODE Informatics.

Tayyab was leading the event as theDean of the School of AI. He talked about the scope of AI in entrepreneurship and industry.
